    Posted: 24 Jun 2009 at 6:42pm
Why is the stock status feed NEVER EVER the same as what is currently in stock.

If this was resolved it would make our likes a lot easier, and save me earache for 2 hours!!Cry

Can anyone explain why they never match up?

Here is a classic example:

This csv file says you have 5 in stock with item number N0507
However you site currently says that there are 9 instock

Is there a special formula that we are supposed to use to calculate the correct amount in stock?

I have contacted a friend of mine who is a formula expert at Oxford University and as yet he has not been able to find such a formula, he believes that this folmula could be as hard as working out the creation of the universe....

What your Oxford university should have told you is that the figures in the feeds are designed not to match up ;)

You may have noticed they are lower.   The feed has a margin of error built in so it always displays a lower figure for the stock levels.  This helps prevent back orders for those that are only capable of synchronising the figures a couple of times a day.

The number deducted is usually 3 - but for high value, low stock QTY items (e.g. cupids couch and many of the high end dolls) this will be only 2 or 1.

As an example if we have 10 of 'RabbitX' in stock the feed will report 7.  Shop A might sell 3 overnight, shop B another 7.  This way when they come to place the orders the 3 'extra' RabbitX's mean both customers get ther goods.

In summary - there's no need to adjust the figures in the report there that way to protect you from back orders.

Also I noticed you gave this link
http://www.1on1wholesale.co.uk/members_area/feeds.2.0/datafiles/status.csv
Not
http://www.1on1wholesale.co.uk/members_area/feeds.2.0/status-feed.asp

The second one being the link that triggers the building of status.csv file and then redirects to it once complete.  You should always use the .asp link to ensure the status file is rebuilt.  This will have been compounding your problems.

If your accessing via script you'll need to hand over login details - see this post which details how to do it.

Hi Darren...

Thank's for taking the time to reply...

I am still none the wiser (sorry)

And it still does not solve my problem, it still takes Laura 1.5 hours to complete this every week.

Especially is something says 30 in stock - but in fact you may have 250

Not too sure what else can be done...

As you may know Laura keeps an eye on things getting very low so that she can order all of them, especially if it is an item that we know will take a while to get back in...

Regards

Anthony

Hi Anthony,

Looks like you've hit the other limit we put in - the maximum stock listed in the feed is capped to prevent malicious scripts using our feed against us and trying to order all of everything  (yes people really have tried to do this in the past!).

If your seeing a vast difference like the above then rest assured we only order 30 ourselves... so 30 will be fine to use as the stock figure.  If you keep checking you'll see it drop when it reaches sensible levels.

I'll give you a call to go over exactly what your process is and see what can be done.
